Last Night I Sang to the Monster

Zach is an eighteen year old senior who lives in a dysfunctional home. His mom is a manic depressant who hits him for no reason. A father that is an alcoholic who never spends time with him and a brother that beats on him when ever he sees him. Zack wakes up one morning in rehab. He can not remember how he got there and he can not remember his past. Zack does not want to remember because to remember is to feel and to feel hurts.

When Zack wakes up his roommate is a fifty –three year old man named Rafael. Zack and Rafael become real good friends. Rafael tries to help Zack face is monster. Rafael has a theory, if he could help Zack remember it would help Zack face his monsters and in turn would help him face his monsters.  Zack does not believe that he will ever be happy. Zack had a theory also. His theory was that everyone was born with a blank heart and God writes what you are on your heart. On Zack’s heart God wrote sad. He feels it very hard to feel alive.

Benjamin Alire Sanenz had my attention from beginning to end. I even cried and felt joy at different parts of the novel. Saenz takes us in the past and present of Zack’ life, dealing with being addicted to alcoholic and cocaine. This novel lets you into the mind of an addict and how Zack is coping to try and recover from his addiction.

Dead Until Dark

Sookie is a 22 year old waitress who lives in Bon Temp, Louisiana. She is different than most people at least the people in her town. Sookie can read peoples minds. People in Bon Temp see her as crazy Sookie. Sookie’s parents died when she was young, so she lives with her grandmother. She has a brother named Jason who is real popular with the women in the town. Sookie can not believe how the women can’t see how much of a jerk he really is. When Jason became older he moved in is parents house in town. Sookie works just about every day at a bar called Merlotte, for am man named Sam who is not quite what he seems.
In Sookies world vampires have come out in the open and everyone knows that they exist. It has been a year that the vampires have come out and Sookie still has not seen a vampire. One night while she is working, a stranger walks into Merlotte an sits at one of the tables. Sookie know right away that he is a vampire. This good looking vampire name is Bill. Well Bill and Sookie are thrown together right away. Sookie saves Bills life. While saving his life she finds out that she can’t read his mind. She is surrounded by silence and she loves every minute of it. Later on Sookie gets mixed up with this couple that almost kills her. Bill comes to her rescue and saves her from them. To heal Sookie all the way Bill has her drink his blood. By Sookie drinking his blood they have a closer bond with each other.  This bond soon turns into a relationship, and most of the town people are wearied out by them seeing each other together.
Soon two women known as fangbangers (women who like to sleep with vampires and let them drink there blood) and someone close to Sookie are died. This makes Sookie think that her life is also in danger. Who do they accuse of the killing going on in there town; of course the new vampire that has just come to town. Sookie defends Bill, but no one will believe her because she is crazy already and now she is real crazy for dating a vampire.
This is a real great book. I kept reading it until I was at the end of the book. The book takes you through Sookie and Bills relationship and all the strange murders in town. I have always been a fan of vampires and to read a good vampire story makes this book even better.  If you like vampire stories you must read this book and even if you are not really a vampire fan.  This book is still GREAT!!!!!

The Best Laid Plans

This story has three main characters Oliver Russell, Leslie Stewart and Dana Evans. Oliver Russell is a good looking man who has everything going for him, until he is out of funds while running for governor. He meets a woman named Leslie Stewart who tries to keep his campaign going. Oliver and Leslie start a relationship and are soon to be married. Before they are married Oliver betrays Leslie and she spends her life planning to get revenge on him. Planning her revenge on Oliver has made her a successful woman with power. During the time that Leslie is setting her stage to get her revenge on Oliver, Oliver has become the President of United States. When Dana Evens is introduced into the story, I was, what does Dana have to do with this story. Dana is a real go getter and works hard to get what she want s in life. Sidney Sheldon melts her into the story quite well.

This is a great story about POWER and how far people will go to get it and how they use POWER to do what they want and to get what they want.

Catching Fire

This story takes place in a destroyed North America but now know as Panem. Pamem is made up of 13 districts, and a Capital. Every year in Panem they have this game called the Hunger Games. In these games they take a boy and a girl for each district. The kids are forced to fight to the death. The winner wins a life time of luxury. After a few months the winner is required to attend a Victory Tours w,ere the winner goes form district to district including the capital. These games are done to remind the people that they can not over power the capital.
This story is about a girl named Katness who has just defined the Capital by making not one winner but two winners of the Hunger Games. Katness feels she needs to protect many people in her life form the Capital. Her mother and sister, Gale and his family, Peeta, and Hychman; Katness mother and her sister Prim live in Katness winnings, a big house outside the town in district 12. Gale, Katness friend has been distance himself form her. There relationship is not as strong as it used to be. Peeta the second winner who lives behind Katness in his big house; confessed his love for Katness is now also pulling himself away from her also. Hychman a previous winner of the Hunger Games is always drowned in alcohol to keep himself form the real world. Katmess and Peeta try and help Hychman out as much as possible.
Catching Fire I really enjoyed this book the second book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. In this book Katness and Peeta have to probe that they are still in love so that they do not start a rebellion. Katness has more ordeals and betrayals that she will go though. I find this book just as in lighting as the first book. The author Suzanne Collins keeps the story going strong all the way to the end of the book. At the end of this book it is making you wanting more. The third book to the Trilogy will be out in August. I am looking forward to reading the last book or Suzanne Collins Trilogy.
